In 1976 Jenny Holzer moved to New York to participate in the Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program. The work approaches violence against women in a way that also explores identity, and intersectionality. Lustmord Table, (1994) by Jenny Holzer, shows a group of human bones are lying on a wooden table. Some of them carry a silver band engraved with fragments of the text Lustmord. The text itself describes a rape-killing from three different points of view: the victim, the perpetrator and the observer.
Jenny Holzer’s text-based projects have attracted the attention of critics, historians, and curators from Des Moines to Dresden. Chapter three shifts focus to one of Holzer’s later works, 1993’s Lustmord, in order to create a critical dialogue between Truisms and Lustmord.
